Obituary of Mary Elizabeth Grundy

GRUNDY, Mary Elizabeth (nee McCreery) Peacefully in Arnprior, Ont on September 29, 2016 at age 95. Mary was born in Windsor, Ontario on September 2, 1921, oldest daughter of William Harold McCreery and Isabel Hay. Predeceased by her husband, Dr. Eric Charles Grundy (1978) and her sister, Margaret West (2007). Survived by her dearly loved children Ian (Toronto), Mary Gwyn (Waba, Ont.), Gail (Markham) and Graeme (Janice – Edmonton, Alta.) Mary is the well loved Grammy of Katie and Matthew Grundy, Dylan (Meghan) and Emma (Tony) Brown, Kevin and Scott Wilson, Mark and Cameron Grundy. She will be remembered by family and friends in Alberta, Ontario and British Columbia. After finishing high school in Windsor, Ontario, Mary graduated from the University of Toronto, University College, in 1943 with a BA in Household Economics. While there she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega and met her future husband Eric. Mary worked as a lab technician at the Toronto General Hospital and then graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1951 from Toronto Western Hospital. The early years of her marriage were spent as a lab technician in England and travel in Europe before settling in Etobicoke, Ont. to raise her family. While spending 60 years in her beloved Toronto, Mary travelled extensively throughout Canada, the US, Europe, New Zealand and the Caribbean. Mary contributed many hours as a volunteer for various charities, and continued her education throughout her adult years. Mary moved in 2003 to Arnprior, Ontario to spend her remaining years at the Arnprior Villa and The Grove Nursing Home, closer to her daughter in Waba. A quiet funeral and burial will be held at the Elmwood Cemetery, Highway #7 in Markham, Ontario. Donations to a charity of choice would be greatly appreciated.
