Dear Dorothy and family,
It is with sadness that I learn of John's passing. I can tell you that being one of his drivers from Seniors At Home, that I had many a great conversations with John about his life with you and the kids and about being a Policeman. He loved his life at home so much and the stories of being a Policeman were so entertaining. I could see the warmth and caring he had for his community and his perseverance in trying to guide the teenagers in the right direction. With a bit of love and a firm "it's time to take it on home kids". You don't see many like him today, that's for sure. John would laugh and smile when he told me his stories. He said "If there was anybody up to mischief at night in the dark alleys they would soon be running in the opposite direction, as they would see my tall silhouette coming down the street and they knew they had better not mess with me"! He said "I never had to pull out my gun at anybody - probably the look of my size did the trick" he then would smile. He reminisced about working down at the Arnprior Hospital and how all the nurses loved it when he worked night shift as they all felt safe knowing I was around. He said "I would treat them all like I would treat my sisters, with respect and dignity! I made sure they made it out to their vehicles alright - so that they weren't afraid. They knew 'Big John" was there to protect them. Well John made me laugh and smile every time he got into the car. He always had kinds words to say about his wife, family and friends. He said "Dorothy is one in a million and I am so lucky that she is my wife. She is so strong and dependable. She never lets anyone down. She can take care of everything and everybody. And she does a great job every time! She's a great cook too! I am a very lucky man! Well John, we are all lucky that you were a part of our lives. God's Speed my friend - until we meet again!

My thoughts and prayers are with you Dorothy and all of your family at the loss of a great man - your husband, father, grandfather and friend.
I will never forget him,I am sure many will feel the same way. I will remember those days when he served the Town of Arnprior as a Police Officer - he did his job with both professionalism and humour. He seemed to enjoy calling late at night or real early in the morning to inform you that the door to the office was not locked. In my case the former Guide office. I remember it like it was yesterday - A winter night with soft snow falling and the entire town covered in a white blanket. I open the door and there he is sitting at my desk with his legs stretched out on the desk and saying, with the biggest smile, "Good morning Golder".
John was one of a kind, a true memorable part of Arnprior's history.
Rest in Peace XXX

My condolences to the Homer family. I have fond memories of playing hockey with Wayne and Paul. I also have many memories of John and "Scotty" when they were police officers in the Town of Arnprior. John could be an intimidating figure, until you got to know him...he had a heart of gold and was always very forgiving. The true definition of a gentle giant. My thoughts and prayers are with the Homer family.

I'm so sorry to hear about John's passing. Our families were very close and when I was young our families spent a lot of time together. Despite his size and deep, loud voice, John had a kind heart and would do anything to help those in need. I'm sad that he's gone and I'm thinking about Dorothy, James, Diane, Terry, Wayne, Paul, Lynn and Charlene...
