My Uncle Brow.
Many years of still seeing you arranging things for the kids at West Bay, the family home. Aunt Lillian... You were the most approachable of adults for me. Always a kind word, a laugh, a hug. Always love.
I know this is months after your passing and I was stricken to find out now and shows how terrible my sense of family and love to be so long in writing this. And now I am not young myself.
You will always an important weave/part of all that I am, Cape Breton roots. North Sydney and West Bay. I shut my eyes and can see you bounding down the kitchen entrance stairs to welcome us "home" when we would gather at West Bay. Or anywhere.
Your nephew,
"Mackie"

Dad, you were the best daddy a girl, young woman, and an all 'growed-up' adult, could ever have.
The conversation we had just a few short weeks ago, the last time we were at home, when I was telling you about the work I'm doing, and how I'm surprised at the way that, every time I speak, someone invites me to join something bigger, and how I was kind of in awe with what I was able to do, the people who were listening to me, and respecting me.
You looked surprised, and said "Of course they are. They can't do anything else. People will always know when you speak truth. You can do so much. They need you, and they know it." I said "Aw dad, you always believed in me. Even when I was most lost, you always believed in me." You just beamed. Ear to ear, the face of my loving father. And said "Always. No doubts. You and your sister both!".
Thank you, most amazing of men, most beautiful of fathers, and best ever of daddy's. You taught me how to trust, how to be courageous, and what real love is. The true unconditional love of a father allows us to grow to be our best selves
When I was a little girl, the safest place in the universe was in your arms. You held me and protected me when the world's sharp edges hurt. In your last hours, your safe place was in my arms, and I loved you and held you the same way.
I love you. I would say I miss you, and certainly, not having you in the world physically is hard, and will hurt for a long time. But you are here with me. I can feel you. You are the Angel of my soul.
Your daughter, your baby girl, your heart in mine,
Laura
