Obituary of Hyacinth Chatterton

Farewell to Dorothy Hyacinth Chatterton who passed away on Friday, August 13, 2021 after 86 beautiful years of life. Known for her friendly nature and positive attitude, her loss will be felt by many. Hyacinth had been very recently diagnosed with cancer and died peacefully in hospice in Kanata with family at her side.
She will be greatly missed by daughters, Andrea, Kristi (Nick), Liane (Dwayne) and by grandchildren, Asha, Kimiko, Kira, Niella, Quinn and Sitoé. Predeceased by Eugene, her husband of 52 years, whom she met while she was earning her Master’s degree at the University of New Brunswick. They married in New Brunswick and began their family life together in the Maritimes, later moving to Ontario. She will be missed by sisters Olive and Sybil both of Toronto as well as her niece, Jean and nephews, Alan, Kirk, Patrick and Wayne. She was born in Chapelton, Jamaica, March 26, 1935 to Simeon Nathaniel Brown and Ina Etheline (Mais) Brown. One of four children, she is predeceased by her parents and brother Richard. A resident of Arnprior and the Ottawa Valley for decades, Hyacinth left Jamaica for university studies in Toronto in 1957 and ended up making Canada her permanent home. Well known in the community as “Madame” to her French students, she was a lifelong teacher and educator, instructing line-dancing and tennis in addition to language and communications to all ages, cultural groups and levels of study. In the local community, she held various roles over the years. She was a committee chair and board member, tennis club president, chorister, fundraiser and event organizer. Hyacinth is a long time member of Grace St. Andrew’s United Church. Hyacinth’s arrangements have been entrusted to the Boyce Funeral Home Ltd., 138 Daniel Street North, Arnprior. A celebration of her beautiful and well-lived life will be held Saturday September 11, 2021 at the Grace St. Andrew's United Church in Arnprior at 3:00 p.m. The service will be webcast live for those who cannot attend. Guests are encouraged to wear bright clothing in memory of Hyacinth. Donations in memory of Hyacinth may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Hospice Care Ottawa or the Arnprior Regional Health Foundation and would be appreciated by her family.
A limited number of guests are able to attend the church service with additional outdoor space available. Social Distancing/Facemasks/Coverings are required.
