I worked with Bernie for many years at Ontario Hydro. He was an Assistant Project Forester on transmission line construction. He was always such a pleasure - kind, funny, patient, and a hard worker. His hand written records of encounters with property owners (on memo forms with many carbons) were hilarious to read. We’d practically be in tears with his descriptions of situations only Bernie could get into, written in his folksy dry style. What a loss to his family. Bernie, you were a prince of a man. Rest well, old friend.

Dear Louva and family. We would like to extend our sincerest condolences and let you know the Tysick family in Perth are thinking of you at this very sad time. Mom and Dad thought so highly of you and Bernie and your family. As young kids we all still remember spending time with your family and Bernie taking us skidooing and rides in his old car. Please take care.

Dear Louva and family, So sorry to hear of Bernie's passing. This must be a sad time for you folks. I remember you coming to my Mom's, Marguerite Stewart, 80th birthday in Winchester many years ago, if I recall correctly. It was so nice to see you folks and reconnect. I was living in Edmonton at the time and now live in Victoria, BC enjoying the gardening here. Lots of trees in this area and Bernie would enjoy that with his love of trees. Here's a photo of Mom and I from many years ago. Take care, Lorna Stewart

We are sorry to hear of Bernie’s passing.
We are used to referring to Bernie as the Hollywood Handyman. Bernie helped my Mother, Ruby Downey with many repairs around her house as well as sharing jokes and helpful hints.
Bernie and Louva were very kind to a young man, Ryan who lived next door to them for awhile. He was wheelchair bound with Cerebral Palsy and I know he appreciated the kindness and attention they showed him.
Bernie, you lived a full life and will always be remembered as the kind soul you were.
Sincerely, Joan and Alan

As next door neighbours we enjoyed Mr. Bernie’s gardening tips and tricks throughout the years. Mr. Bernie planted a tree in our backyard a couple of years ago and we look forward to it’s growth as a celebration of his life.

We want to express our sincere condolences to Louva and the family. Since hearing the news, we have been reminiscing about our times with Bernie. He was kind and trustworthy. He was a true gentleman. We can still see his smile and hear his laugh as he showed us his classic car with the special horn. Each Sunday, he was usually positioned at the end of our favourite row in church and we looked forward to his hearty greetings and humorous anecdotes. We enjoyed it when Bernie would share his knowledge about his many different interests but noted that he would always be the most animated when talking about the “family”. We are sad to know that we will not be able to visit with Bernie anymore here on earth, but are happy to know that we will all meet again in heaven.
Philippians 3:20 NIV “But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Saviour from there, the Lord Jesus Christ.”
