Obituary of Barry Buttler
June 3, 1951 - November 13, 2023

With heavy hearts we announce that Barry Rae Buttler, of Ottawa, age 72, passed away peacefully on Monday November 13, 2023, surrounded by his loving family at the Ruddy Shenkman Hospice in Kanata. Barry was the cherished husband of Margaret Buttler (nee Hamilton) for 37 years, and the proud and loving father of Samantha. He is survived by his brother Terry Buttler (Sharon) of Prince Edward County. He was born to the late Raymond and Mary McPherson Buttler (MacKenzie) and is predeceased by his sister Sandra Busch (late Bradley) and his father and mother-in-law, Bill and Gloria Hamilton. He will be fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews: Kelly, Jennifer, Adam, Matt, Carly, Taylor, Anny, Joy, Todd Carmen, Aaron, Victoria, Mike, Erin, Tina, Michael, Angela (Matt), Steven (Cindy), Laura (Jesse), Lindsay (Andrew), Kayla, Jason, and Shawn. He was the beloved brother-in-law of Kevin Hamilton (Darlene), Beth Medokovic (George), Ray Hamilton (Bonnie), and Jim Hamilton (Sandi). Throughout his remarkable 42-year career at the Ottawa Civic Hospital, Barry began as an orderly and later contributed his skills to the medical gas department. His dedication and hard work were evident in his commitment to the hospital community. Barry found joy and relaxation in his favorite pastimes, including hunting, fishing, and golf. These hobbies reflected his appreciation for nature and the outdoors, and he shared these passions with family and friends. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Swami, Carefor, and the compassionate staff at the Ruddy Shenkman Hospice for their exceptional care during Barry's final days. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects at the Boyce Funeral Home, 138 Daniel Street North, Arnprior, on Saturday, November 18, 2023, with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. The funeral service will follow at 11:30 a.m. in the Boyce Chapel, with a reception to follow in the Boyce Reception Centre. Interment at White Lake Community Cemetery. Donations in memory of Barry may be made to the Ruddy Shenkman Hospice or to the Canadian Cancer Society.
