Obituary of Velma Smith

March 16, 1940 – February 22, 2024

It is with sadness that we announce that Velma Correna Smith (nee Brown) passed away peacefully at the Grove Nursing Home in Arnprior on Thursday February 22, 2024 at the age of 83. Beloved wife of the late Robert Smith (2008). Loving mother of Karen Patterson (Robert), Connie Crowder (Greg) and Bobbi-Jo Smith. Cherished grandmother of Alicia (Stephen), Forrest (Candice), Jenni, Chris, Kristyn (Chad), Derek (Ashley), Natalie and Lexi and great-grandmother of Joseph, Grace-Lynne, Victoria, Dakota, Ever, Abi, Sadie, William, Boyd and Alexis. Great-great grandmother of 1 granddaughter. Dear sister of Gary Brown (Brenda). Predeceased by sisters Barb Batoff (late Bob), Jean Abbass (late Ron), Joan Carter (late Jim) and brothers Ron Brown (late Sandra) and Allan Brown. Missed by many nieces and nephews. Daughter of the late Alexander and Maude Brown. Velma found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She tended to her garden with care and enjoyed spending time on the golf course. Her resilient spirit reflected the beauty of nature around her. In quieter moments, she found solace in the peaceful rhythm of a game of Solitaire. Velma’s arrangements have been entrusted to the Boyce Funeral Home Ltd., 138 Daniel Street N., Arnprior. A private family interment will be held at Arnprior Albert Street Cemetery in the spring. A donation may be made in memory of Velma to the Dementia Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County.
