Gwenith Winsome May Woods, RN
(nee Campbell)
October 31, 1922-February 1, 2017
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Gwenith “Gwen” Woods, aged 94 years, peacefully and with cherished family members at her side.
Gwen was the baby girl in a family of five boys, adoringly called "'The Lads", all predeceased: Gordon (Verna), Ken (Lyla), Mervin, Warren (Harriet), Don (Doris). She grew up on a farm on Campbell Drive in McNab Township. As a nurse, Gwen worked in Northern Ontario, Toronto, New York and Arnprior, then settled in Ottawa at 543 Rowanwood Avenue with her husband James (Jim) Parke Woods (predeceased). She loved her family: her husband Jim, her son Brian (Karen), her son Peter (Carolyn), and her daughter Dorothy Jean (Robert), her grandchildren Andrew, Julia (Tim), Maude and Campbell, as well as her many nieces and nephews.
Gwen shared life and good times with her extended family of Woods, Campbells and Browns. She enjoyed opera and fiddle music, Valley stories, dinners at Wong’s, trips to Barbados, summers in Castleford, volunteering, and all things medical.
Special mention of her many friends at Woodroffe United Church and The Grace Hospital Nurses Alumni. We will miss her beautiful smile.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Woodroffe United Church, 207 Woodroffe Ave., Ottawa. There will be an opportunity for the family to meet relatives and friends at a reception to be held at the church following the memorial service.
There will be a private interment at the Arnprior Albert Street Cemetery.
In memoriam donations to the Woodwark Student Bursary Fund of Woodroffe United Church, 207 Woodroffe Ave. Ottawa, K2A 3V1, would be appreciated by the family.
