Kevin and I send our sincerest condolences and thoughts to Catherine and Randy, the Hughes family and friends.
I had the joy of being at Catherine’s bday where her parents flew to Gabriola to surprise her. It was a wonderful weekend of spending time with them and seeing their strong family bond and the love and admiration they all have/had for each other. The twinkle in their eyes when they spoke to each other said it all.
The part I loved most about that weekend was seeing the tears of joy in their eyes when they all first saw each other and then to see the big beautiful hugs they gave each other that confirmed their deep love.
I know I will always remember Margaret’s laugh and charming personality.
Love Sharon and Kevin

Dearest Leo, Kim, Catherine, Robert, Murray, Tom, Colin and families and friends.
When I got Kimmy's call Monday morning, Oct 16th, my heart sunk. I knew that everyone's lives would change forever after the news. Leo's "Angel on Earth" had taken flight. No doubt the emptiness and realization of Margaret's passing is and will be profound in everyone's life. But knowing that she is now with the "One that she worshipped and followed all of her life" she must be shining brightly, in God's presence, and that brings me happiness. No doubt he has adorned her with the highest of praise for her continued faith in him and for teaching it to everyone she had the blessing of meeting. This was her life's journey. To give love, faith, hope and commitment to all and to teach in his ways.
I learned a lot from her beautifully written Obituary, and from tributes from her family and friends. Jesus sent us many teachers and angels on earth to learn from and to give us hope, faith and strength. Margaret and Leo do/did this as "team work" and now Leo will continue with the torch as he always has, and will keep passing it onto others. Thanks for this Leo.
God's Speed Margaret!
Thank you for sharing all of you with all of us!
Big hugs and prayers of peace and strength to the Hughes Family.
All our love,
Nancy Peck and Tex Wilson

Where does one start to share about this remarkable woman? I was privileged to know Margaret in my youth. She and "The Rev" arrived in town and literally turned our church inside out. She loved to laugh and her home was always a welcoming place for teens trying to find their way in life. She was a strong believer and if I remember correctly The Rev shared that she was instrumental in his coming to faith. Where would we be today if she wasn't so committed to pointing people to Christ?
It was obvious she loved being a mom and cared for each of her children as if they were the only child. I think people at the time, perhaps even today, held the pastor and his family to a higher standard than the rest of us. Margaret never seemed concerned about that. Her home was a lively sanctuary and everyone who spent time in her presence left feeling valued and appreciated. She even thought adding the dog Penny to the family was just fine and no extra challenge to her energies and time. How she managed to be "the pastor's wife", mom, confidante, spiritual advisor, The Rev's primary sounding board, guide and friend, homemaker, provider of snacks to hungry teens, parent to overseas students, ( only a few of her many gifts and talents) remains a mystery to the ordinary observer. But in my way of thinking Margaret lived out her deep faith every day IN the every day things. Her strength came from the Lord and I have a feeling she would make it clear there is no mystery in that!
To the Hughes family, I can only express my deep appreciation for your mom. She was a terrific woman and I am sure you will miss her so much. My heart goes out to you because no matter how old you are it is just hard to say good-bye to your mom. Be assured she is in the near presence of the Lord and there to welcome all of you who have entrusted your lives to Christ.
To Pastor Leo, The Rev, you honoured Margaret every day of your lives together. As a young person it was encouraging to witness your steadfast love for each other and the Lord. You were a team and that was not lost on me. You came up with some pretty crazy ideas "back in the day" but Margaret loved supporting you, and encouraging all of us. What a privilege to grow up with the two of you pointing to Christ and living authentically for Him.
Psalm 116:15
We are praying for you in this hard time.
Rosemary Jackson (Terry) Forsythe

This is the such a beautiful tribute to Mrs. Hughes. Thank you for pouring out your heart to everyone and sharing in her most incredible gifts. Your tribute to Margaret and Leo as well, are bang on. Leo does worship the ground she walks on and I have often heard him say that Margaret is the one who got him hooked on the Lord. They both have always lived in the limelight of his love and grace and shared it with all of us. Thank you for your beautiful story. Nancy Peck

Thinking of you all at this difficult time. Hold each other close and remember how much she loved you all. As I sit here reflecting on memories of Margaret, for some reason the description "fierce" came to mind. She showed it in her love for Leo, her children, her faith and any project she chose. Others have probably seen it as well in the sparkle in her eyes, the determined set of her chin and the beautiful Scottish brogue of her voice. She was an inspiration to me to not shy away but to face life with a "fierce" resolve.

We would like to send our sympathy to the Hughes family on Margaret's death but we know she is in God's presence and His peace. Margaret and Leo were our leaders at Kirk Hill. She sat quietly at the back of the church with her young children so they wouldn't disturb the congregation.
Many years later, I met Margaret at WMS where she was part of a very vibrant group.
May God comfort the family and friends at this time.
